MediaCo produces an Adventurous Festive Display for Leicester

Revellers in Leicester are enjoying a super-sized Christmas celebration this year thanks to the addition of a giant advent calendar on display in Charles Street, produced and installed by Manchester-based MediaCo in collaboration with Smart City Dressing (SCD).
The gigantic calendar, commissioned by Leicester City Council to raise funds for the Lord Mayor's Appeal of Special Olympics Leicester 2009, measures 24 metres by 12 metres. It has been produced in PVC to ensure durability and consists of a base layer with 24 images representing the various sponsors of the city council, and a top layer constructed of 24 windows laid over the top.
MediaCo's technical director Vincent Randall has designed a bespoke mechanism to make the 'reveal' work smoothly, every time. Mr Randall says: "This project is an excellent example of what MediaCo can achieve. A client can come to us with a concept, or even just a vague outline of an idea and we'll make it happen."
MediaCo and SCD have shared a successful collaborative relationship on this and many other projects. Jeremy Rucker of SCD says of the Advent Calendar: "We are hugely grateful for all the hard work that went into making the Advent Calendar work, and work it did, the Lord Mayor opened the banner to rounds of applause as the first window serenely dropped to the floor with the lighting coming in perfect synchronisation."
The festive celebrations will culminate in a grand prize draw opened by the Special Olympians on the 24th at 12pm.
